At a formal ceremony held at Bangor Castle, Snow Patrol frontman Gary Lightbody was presented with the freedom of the borough of Ards and North Down.
The prize was presented before the band’s Wednesday acoustic performance in the city of Co Down, which was planned to honour the occasion.
After signing the Book of Burgesses with the mayor Karen Douglas and the council chief executive Stephen Reid, Lightbody, who has been called the most famous son of Bangor, officially accepted the honour.
